Beer: O'Fallon Brewing 10 Day Double IPA

O'FALLON - 10 DAY DOUBLE IPA (O'Fallon, MO) - 3.0 (average)

Located just outside St. Louis, O'Fallon Brewing has been around for 13 years now, and has seen craft brewing rise from a fringe "underground" to full-on mainstream acceptance. I've had a number of their beers over the years, and we here at Goatsden consider O'Fallon a solid, respectable, and quality producer of fine craft ales and lagers. We are pleased to announce a new addition to the brewery's year-round lineup, the heavy-duty, 9%ABV, palate-cleansing 10-Day Double IPA. Review as follows.

Pours a murky, cloudy ruby-amber, with a substantial head of off-white carbonation. Lovely, ornate, and impressive tri-finger lace.

Nose is aromatic pine and citrus hops, with an element of tropical fruit. Solid.

Taste is where things fall apart for me -- I get a wallop of heavy, sour, acidic, and bitter hoppiness. It's compounded by a big, heavy, and sweet malt profile that is overpowering, too. Sure, this is a huge beer for serious hop-heads, but I don't get a balance, nor any semblance of subtlety here, sorry.

Not one I'd return to, unfortunately. With a bit of tweaking to the recipe, this could be a world-class IPA, but for now, it's recommended only to serious hop-fiends.

Beer: O'Fallon Brewery - Sticke It To The Man

Solid and unique altbier with balls!

Among the 1200+ beers I've tasted, I've never had a "sticke alt", but thanx to some quick research on the world's best beer site (beeradvocate), I discovered it's a hyped-up, heavier altbier, so I'm glad to have sampled this one.

O'Fallon Brewing, based just outside St. Louis, has been experimenting with some unusual styles, and I've never had a bad beer from them, so was anxious to dig in to this one. Had 2 bottles, 2 separate days, to get a firm grasp on the flavor profile and overall characteristics.

Pours a clean ruby-amber, with substantial off-white head. Exquisite, detailed lace. Beautiful! Nose is caramel malts all the way. Hops here are dialed way back. Malt fans, rejoice! Taste is also a more toasty caramel malts, with subtle hints of an almost fruity note submerged beneath. Sticke Alt is a rich tasting experience, with nary a hint of the high 7.5% ABV.

Many thanx to Paul Byrne at Byrne PR for graciously "hooking me up" with this brew!

Beer: O'Fallon Rager Red

O'FALLON BREWERY (O'Fallon, Missouri) - RAGER RED - 3.5

O'Fallon Brewery, based near the beer mecca of St. Louis, Missouri, has been crafting fine ales for 12 years now, and is a sort of fixture locally. Distributed throughout the Midwest, O'Fallon has released a new Spring seasonal, Rager Red, an Irish-style red ale, in 6-packs and kegs. I was lucky enough to enjoy a bottle not long after release.

Pours, naturally, a ruby-amber tone, with fair carbonation and thin, wispy lace on the inside of my pint glass. Aroma is caramel and toffee malts. Not bad. Taste is sharp, toasty grains. I also get a hint of fruit and a little hop tinge at the finish.

Really, a deilghtful, eminently drinkable session ale that's both accessable and flavorful. Nice one!
